Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 15th)–The sales of FAW Toyota accumulated 154,000 units in the first quarter of 2016, up by 43.7% compared against the same period last year, which is 6 times higher than the average growth and further introduce FAW Toyota into the 5 million sales club.
To be noted, Even though the sedan market is relatively depressing currently, sedan is what FAW Toyota leverages on for its sales growth, which is very unusual because SUVs are the main driver for other brands’ growth. Supporting that, FAW Toyota sold 16,882 Carola sedans this February, up by 63.6% against last February, and ranked No.5 in sedan segment. Ruling out other factors such as tax breaks, Toyota’s quality is believed to be the main reason for the boosting sales.
Looking back, the year of 2015 has been a successful year for FAW Toyota. This carmaker has sold 618,000 units, up by 5.5% against 2014, which is very impressive considered the relatively depressing China’s auto market.
Looking forward, Jiang Jun, general manager of FAW Toyota, said this carmaker plans to sale 620,000 units in 2016, and boost its sales to 1 million units by 2020 as well as expand its sales network to 700 dealers. Besides, Toyota will launch its latest platform TNGA in China in 2018, which is expected to not only reduce the weight and cost of TNGA models, but also lower their fuel consumption. TNGA could support both fuel vehicles and hybrid vehicles.
